Given that this is my first restaurant review please bear with me.
(Disclaimer: 1st or 101st review, by no means does this inhibit my credibility regarding food experience lol. Thank you!)
I like to consider myself a “D.C. Native” even tho I’m pretty sure after I was born my family had to move to Mexico. So maybe… “world traveler” is a bit more befitting. However, in moving throughout my childhood I believe that my foodie instincts were then activated.
Now that the “D.C. Native” has returned to her beloved birthplace (just for a summer internship!) she can now actively discuss her food experiences and expertise.
The city of Bethesda, MD, known for its great shops, eateries, and family friendly living is the home of one of the many locations of “Not Your Average Joe’s: Kitchen and Bar”(NYAJ).
“Not Your Average Joe’s: Kitchen and Bar” franchise originated in Dartmouth, Massachusetts in 1994 and now serves 6 states with 24 locations. This unique ‘herb-n’ American restaurant has served people with a “unique approach to food” (words spoken from their web page lol). And I am a customer that agrees!
“Not Your Average Joe’s” is truly an ‘Herb-n’ family friendly restaurant that has something for every guest. From a casual co-workers lunch to a weekend ‘lit-uation’ dinner, NYAJ welcomes you.
One thing that I loved about NYAJ is the diverse food choices from house made ramen to fried chicken NYAJ has it all. For a first timer, the menu was a bit overwhelming at first sight because of its diverse menu choices. But, NYAJ doesn’t stop there, they have tailored their specialty recipes into a gluten-free menu as well. This allows customers with a gluten allergy to not have to limit their food experience due to their allergy(s).
The food was quite tasteful. After gaining 20lbs from the complementary Focaccia Bread and Parmigiano & Herbs Dipping Oil, I ordered the Mustard Crusted Chicken served with Green Beans and Mashed Potatoes, while my parents ordered the sirloin tips. The mustard in the breading was not overbearing but, created a great pairing along with the tender chicken. I would have enjoyed a simple sauce or thin gravy on top of the entrée but overall the meal was delightful.
From rustic modern interior and exterior decor to a hospitable and delightful staff, the unique NYAJ Bethesda location experience was surely not a disappointment.
