When it comes to any kind of sport there are just those staple game day foods that we crave while enjoying our favorite teams win (or lose). Most of these foods are not meant to be healthy or guilt-free but messy and hardy to pair with a great cold beverage. I am talking about Wings, Meatballs, Cheese sticks, Nachos, and of course the classics Hot Dogs and Hamburgers.

With Super Bowl 55 underway why not bring you all a great American game day classic Hot Dog with a sloppy vegan twist. Today, I am sharing my Vegan Sloppy Joe Hot Dogs! They may be messy, hardy, and sloppy… but, they are certainly healthy and guilt-free!
Ingredients:
- Plant-Based Hot Dogs
- Gluten-Free Hot Dog Buns
- Plant-Based Beef
- Mushrooms
- Oil
- Onion
- Garlic
- Bell Pepper
- Ketchup
- Tomato Paste
- Mustard
- Brown Sugar
- Coco Aminos
- Adobo
- Old Bay
- Curry
- Cayenne
- Salt & Pepper
Materials:
- Deep Cooking Skillet
- Cooking Spatula
- Small bowl
- Measuring Cups & Spoons
- Cooking Brush
- Tongs
- Grill or Skillet
In a medium-large skillet begin cooking diced onion and minced garlic in olive oil over medium heat until onions are transparent. Then reduce heat to medium-low and stir in tomato paste using a spatula or spoon until onion and garlic are fully coated.
Tip: If you are using a grill to cook your hot dogs begin to heat the grill. I am using an indoor island grill, however, an outdoor grill or electric grill will do the same.
Once onions have been coated with tomato paste, you can increase the stove to medium heat and add your plant-based beef and begin to cook down until ingredients are combined
When the “beef” has been cooked down begin to add in the remaining vegetables (diced bell pepper and minced mushrooms). Next, add Coco Aminos, Brown Sugar, Mustard, Adobo, Old Bay, Curry, Cayenne, and stir in ketchup. Be sure to season to taste with salt and pepper, and allow to simmer on low for 5-10mins (string occasionally).
While your Sloppy Joe mixture simmers begin to grill (or cook) hot dogs by placing the plant-based hot dogs on the grill for 7-10 mins turning occasionally on all sides to cook.
Tip: Cooking instructions may vary depending on the brand of plant-based hot dogs. Be sure to follow the brand’s recommended cooking instructions.
When placing hot dogs on the grill use a small bowl and cooking brush to oil the hot dogs while cooking to avoid burning.
While hot dogs are finishing cooking turn remove the sloppy joe mixture from the heat and lightly toast gluten-free buns with vegan butter or avocado oil on the grill until toasted.
Once the hot dogs have finished cooking, place the hot dogs into the gluten-free bun and top with sloppy joe and serve.
Tip: Feel free to top with your favorite vegan cheddar cheese if you desire and broil hot dogs in the oven for 3-5mins.
